Abstract
At this time rambutan fruit is very popular among the people. Do we know that when we are used to picking rambutan fruit we will also pick the leaves from the rambutan, with this situation in society we usually throw the leaves in the trash or we burn them. One of the promising alternative raw materials is tannin. Tannins are very complex polyphenolic compounds. Due to the presence of phenol groups, tannins can react with formaldehyde to form thermosetting products. The method of extracting tannins from rambutan leaves can be done by extraction. The extraction method used in this study is the sonication method so that the best results of extracting tannins are obtained by breaking the molecules using ultrasonic waves. environment, crude tannin has the potential to become a bio-coagulant in wastewater purification. The results of the analysis showed that the highest tannin content was obtained at 60 minutes of sonication with a level of 7.6502% and this was correct with the tannin content in rambutan leaves, namely 7-9%. The higher the weight per volume with the longer sonication time, the higher the tannin content. And at 75 minutes with 30/150 gr/ml the extraction yield decreased so that it reached the optimum time. Extraction by sonication and maceration methods can be carried out with results that meet established standards.
