Abstract
Boilers are equipment used to produce steam (steam) for various purposes. Water used as boiler feed can be obtained from various sources. However, the influence of minerals on the chemical industry process is quite complex, which is causing scale in heating processes such as boilers, so the quality standard requirements that must be met as boiler feed water are very strict to meet energy needs in industry. To get boiler feed that matches the quality standard, you can use an Ion Exchanger. Ion exchangers use the principle of exchanging cations and anions to remove impurities dissolved in water by using substances that can absorb ions in the water. This study used well water as a feed solution taken in Rungkut sub-district and ion exchange resins through S-100 and through M-504 resins. In this study, it begins with the feed solution flowing with a flow rate pump using a flow rate sensor indicator with a flow rate variation of 1 L/minute; 1.5 L/minute; 2 L/minute. Furthermore, it is passed through an ion exchange column at room temperature and time with variations of 1 minute; 2 minutes; 3 minutes; 4 minutes and 5 minutes for each flow rate. The product water obtained is accommodated in the product tank and its TDS, conductivity and pH are measured. The best well water filtration and ion exchange results were obtained using a flow rate of 1 L/minute at 5 minutes where there was a TDS level of 776 ppm, an energy conductivity of 1573 /cm, and a pH of 8.3. The results of TDS and EC have met the quality standards according to ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) while the pH results have not met the quality standards where the required pH ranges from 10.5-11.5. Keywords: boiler, well water, ion exchange
