Abstract

This research is based on the existence of a new student admission policy through a zoning system, which is divided into 4 (four) pathways. The implementation of this zoning system is the government's effort to erase public opinion about favorite schools and superior schools. In the 2019 zoning system, there are several weaknesses that become obstacles in the implementation process. In Gresik Regency, there are several public junior high schools that are centered in the city and become an obstacle for prospective students whose homes are far from the school, as in 2019 the zoning system in 2020 also has weaknesses in almost the same case where participants whose homes are close to the school actually not selected. One parent said he was surprised when his son's name was lost in student registration at UPT SMP Negeri 20 Gresik, even though his house was only 1.7 km away, while those who were farther away were accepted. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The location of this research is at UPT SMP Negeri 20 Gresik. The focus of this research is based on the technical guidelines for new student admissions (PPDB) for Kindergarten, SDN, SMPN for the 2020/2021 academic year, Gresik Regency. The target of the study focused on this research is to determine the suitability of students who are accepted according to the requirements and the selection system in each pathway, namely (1) the Zoning Path (2) the Affirmation Path (3) the Parent/Guardian Transfer Path (4) the Achievement Path. Data collection techniques by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results obtained from this study are (1) participants who are accepted at UPT SMP Negeri 20 Gresik through the zoning route have met the general requirements, for the selection system there are still obstacles in determining the coordinates. (2) Admission on the affirmation pathway for prospective students has complied with the requirements and the selection system (3) The transfer path for parents/guardians is not implemented at UPT SMP Negeri 20 Gresik (4) Some prospective students on the achievement path in the requirements are not appropriate because they are not attach a letter of recommendation for charter verification, students who are accepted on the achievement track are in accordance with the selection system.
