Abstract

Water quality will decrease as the distant distances away from the reservoir so Minister of Health Regulation No. 736/Menkes/SK/IV/2010 is issued by the government as the quality standard for drinking in Indonesia of 0.2 mg / l at the farthest point of the distribution network to avoid contamination of microorganisms. The results of the evaluation of the quality of the production water cannot guarantee the quality of the customer's water, especially the customers who are away from the water treatment plant. This study used VENSIM PLE, a dynamic model programming, to provide a simple and systematic description of the variables that affected the water supply company in Indonesia (PDAM) distribution network to be simulated into 3 (three) main scenarios, they were moderate scenario, pessimistic scenario, and optimistic scenario that will be the reference in the selection strategy based on environmental aspects. This research showed that the dynamic model of PDAM distribution network is influenced by many factors that influenced each other in causal relationship such as pipeline leakage, water flow production, water flow distribution, distribution distance, water velocity, major headloss, pipe crosssectional area, pipe diameter, pH, chlorine residual, Escherichia coli, and water flow. The simulation results in the moderate scenario are the existing conditions with 25% pipe leakage indicating Escherichia coli increased significantly at a distance of 8 km. The number of Escherichia coli reached 18 MPN/100 ml. Pipe leakage in extreme conditions with 50% for 12 days at a distance of 2 km, 4 km, and 8 km can be the most influential variable on water quality, namely in terms of Escherichia coli parameters and residual chlorine. At the optimum conditions for 12 days, the conditions were quite good at a distance of 2 km and 4 km when viewed from the water quality based on Escherichia coli and residual chlorine parameters. Pipe leakage is very influential because it causes the entry of organic and inorganic compounds into the distribution network. In addition, pipe leaks can also directly cause the entry of Escherichia coli originating from domestic waste, especially feces, in the distribution network. Key words : chlorine residual, Escherichia coli, scenario, VENSIM PLE
