Abstract

The Acetic Acid Plant with a capacity of 80,000 tons/year will be established in the Kendal Industrial Estate, Kendal, Central Java. This plant will operate 24 hours a day and 330 days a year using Acetaldehyde and Air as raw materials. Acetic acid itself is one of the products that is very often used in the chemical industry in Indonesia, one of which is as an ingredient to make Pure Terephthalic Acid (PTA) which is also used for the textile industry. In the food industry, acetic acid is used as food vinegar. Briefly describe the process of the Acetic Acid Plant from Acetaldehyde With Oxidation Process. The raw materials in the form of acetaldehyde (99-99.8%) and Mn-Acetate catalyst which have been dissolved in water are put into the Mixer Tank to be mixed, then transported to the reactor together with air through a sparger with operating conditions at 5 atm and 65oC reactor. The top product in the form of Acetaldehyde, Oxygen and Nitrogen will be flowed to the scrubber to be separated. Nitrogen and Oxygen are discharged into the air, while Acetaldehyde which is recovered with the help of a water solvent leaving the bottom of the scrubber is accommodated in a holding tank. The product in the form of Crude Acetic Acid, H2O, and Mn-Acetate will be flowed to distillation. In this process the Acetic Acid Crude will be purified from other components so that acetic acid can be obtained with a purity of up to 99% with operating conditions in the distillation column, namely a pressure of 1 atm and a temperature of 117.2oC. Then the acetic acid that has been obtained is cooled and accommodated in the acetic acid storage tank. This factory is planned to be established in Kendal Industrial Estate, Kendal, Central Java and operates for 330 days/year with the following data: 1. Production Capacity: 80,000 Tons/Year 2.
