Abstract

New South Policy is a South Korean foreign policy that only emerged during the era of Moon Jae In, in 2017 and completed in 2019. ASEAN and India member countries are countries that are on the agenda of the New South Policy. Moon Jae In conducting a state visit to each ASEAN member country and India to prove the seriousness of the South Korean government towards the implementation of this foreign policy. New South Policy This emergence then came to the attention and received a good response from ASEAN member countries and India. The addition of South Korea's foreign policy direction towards the South is of course an interesting thing to study for its causes. Internal and external phenomena that occur are very important as well as justifying the steps of the South Korean government in issuing the New South Policy in 2017. The change of leadership from Park Geun Hye to Moon Jae In who has different political backgrounds and visions depends on internal factors. Not only that, the significant economic cooperation that exists between South Korea and ASEAN member countries and India is also a strong consideration. The issue of security politics in East Asia also added motivation for South Korea to implement the policy. And the last is the popularity of Korean culture in Southeast Asia and India which previously made a major contribution to South Korean economy. Keywords: New South Policy, ASEAN and India, Change of Leadership, Significance of Economic Cooperation, Political Security Issues, Korean Cultural Trends
