Abstract
Tajwid instruction is a crucial aspect of reading the Qur’an properly and accurately; however, in practice, many children still struggle to grasp the rules of tajwid. This is attributed to learning materials that remain conventional, text-heavy, and ill-suited to the learning characteristics of 7–9-year-olds, who tend to be visual and imaginative learners. This problem was also found at LPQ ARLI, where students had difficulty understanding tajwid material and quickly became bored during the learning process. This project aims to develop an effective and engaging illustrated Tajwid textbook that is tailored to children’s needs. The design thinking methodology was employed, encompassing the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Data was collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and a literature review. The design outcome is an illustrated book on tajwid that combines visual elements, stories, and interactive activities with a step-by-step approach to teaching the material using “tajwid formulas” and instructional videos. Additionally, the material is presented through engaging stories so that children can learn in a fun way. The visual design employs a simple cartoon illustration style with pastel colors and child-friendly sans-serif typography. The design also includes supplementary materials such as a bag, pencil case, water bottle, pointer, keychain, and notebook to reinforce the learning experience in children’s daily lives. It is hoped that this design can help improve children’s understanding of and interest in learning tajwid, as well as serve as a more effective and enjoyable alternative learning medium within the LPQ environment.
