Abstract
Shallots (Allium cepa L.) is one of the plants that require soil conditions that contain high organic matter, loose, and the texture of sandy loam and dusty loam. Suitable soil conditions will develop tuber development so that the results are maximum. Nganjuk Regency and Bojonegoro Regency are one of the shallot producers in East Java. Both areas have the same environmental characteristics and soil types. However, the production of shallots has differences. The difference in the productivity of shallots in the two regions can be caused by the physical properties of the soil. This study aims to determine the differences in the physical characteristics of the soil that appear on the cultivation of shallots and the production of shallots. Soil samples were taken at a depth of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm with two types of samples, namely intact and ordinary soil samples. Determining sampling using the Purposive Random Sampling method based on soil type and land use as well as surveying the location of observations. The selected soil types are Vertisol and Inceptisol. Each soil type is represented by 3 sampling points. The results showed that the physical characteristics of the soil in the two areas had the same texture, namely dusty clay. Some parameters there are no significant differences such as soil density, soil porosity, soil permeability rate. However, there are parameters that are significantly different, namely C-Organic soil and aggregate stability. Onion productivity is very strong with C-Organic Relationship of soil, soil porosity, and aggregate stability. There is also a fairly strong relationship with soil permeability and bulk density.
