Abstract
ABSTRACT Sherina Pebriany Marpaung, 18043010145, The Influence of Information on Handling COVID-19 through Social Media on Public Trust in Surabaya Social media makes it easier for users to cut the distance between individuals to communicate and also get various information. Since the emergence of COVID-19, the flow of information has been increasingly rapid, especially information about the virus. No exception is information about handling COVID-19 circulating through social media which can be in the form of text, photos, videos, sounds, infographics, and link links that can be spread and consumed by all social media users. The focus of this study is on the influence of information on handling COVID-19 through social media on the trust of the people in Surabaya, whose purpose is to find out how much influence between the two. The free variable in this study is information on handling COVID-19 through the media (X) which affects the bound variable, namely public trust in Surabaya. A total of 100 Surabaya residents participated in this study and filled out the questionnaire distributed during July 2022. At that time, Indonesia experienced a surge in the number of people who were confirmed positive for COVID-19. The data were processed using the kolmogorov-smornov normality test, the correlation coefficient test, and a simple linear regression test. The findings of this study are that there is an influence of information on handling COVID-19 through social media on public trust in Surabaya. These findings imply that it is important for people to improve reading power, especially in the information on handling COVID-19 on social media. Considering that the exposure of this information affects the trust of the public in general. Keywords : COVID-19, Trust, Social Media
