Abstract

Calcium carbonate precipitate is a derivative product of purification calcium carbonate, one of the ingredients that contains calcium carbonate is a golden conch shell. Calcium carbonate precipitates have three types. The polymorphic forms are calcite, vaterite, and aragonite. Calcium carbonate precipitates can carried out by the carbonation method in which the rate of CO2 gas and pH are major factor in the formation of calcium carbonate precipitates. Calcium Precipitation. The resulting carbonate will be characterized by XRF, XRD, and SEM-EDX to determine the effect of differences in CO2 gas rate variations and pH variations on formation of calcium carbonate precipitate polymorphs. The results of the characterization test shows that calcite will be formed at all variations of CO2 gas rate and pH used and will be more and more if the variation of the CO2 gas flow rate and pH used is higher, while vaterite will be formed at the gas flow rate CO2 and low pH, and aragonite is not formed at all flow rate variations CO2 gas and pH used. So from the results of the resulting characteristics it can be concluded that the CO2 gas flow rate and pH affect the formation of polymorphs of calcium carbonate precipitates. Precipitated Calcium Carbonate is produced from golden snail shells with a Ca content of 99.06% and produces calcite, vaterite, and arrogant. Changes in alkaline pH and CO2 gas rate affect the precipitated yield the obtained calcium carbonate. Where at pH 12 and CO2 gas rate 5 L/min yielded the largest yield of 99.873%.
