Abstract
Indonesia has a climate that supports the growth of water hyacinth, so the availability of water hyacinth in Indonesia is very large. Water hyacinth is a plant that is rarely used. The cellulose content of the water hyacinth plant is 64.51% and the lignin content is 7.69%. The cellulose content contained in water hyacinth is what can be used for the manufacture of bioethanol. This research is to determine the ideal conditions of water hyacinth fermentation. There are three processes carried out to make bioethanol, namely delignification, hydrolysis, and fermentation. The delignification process uses a 10% NaOH solution which aims to remove lignin levels. The result of the delignification process is a hydrolysis process using 5% H₂SO₄ solution with the aim of converting cellulose into glucose. Furthermore, for 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 days as time variables in the fermentation process and yeast mass (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae): 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 grams accompanied by the addition of NPK and Urea fertilizers as nutrients in fermentation process. The best results after being tested using a Gas Chromatography (GC) tool were obtained under fermentation conditions for 7 days and a yeast mass of 6 grams with the addition of NPK and Urea fertilizers, the results obtained were 0.528% ethanol content.
