Abstract

The batik industry is currently experiencing rapid growth, along with this growth a new problem arises, namely the increasing number of wastewater containing large enough TSS and color parameters. Coagulation – flocculation and adsorption are technologies that can be used to overcome these problems. The coagulant used is usually a chemical coagulant, if the sediment resulting from the coagulant is discharged into the environment, it will have an impact on human health and the environment. This study aims to determine the ability of Moringa seeds, coconut fiber and dried gambas as green coagulant and to determine the ability of the combination of green coagulant and GAC adsorbent in reducing TSS content and color in batik wastewater. The research was conducted by varying the dose and pH of the green coagulant and the mass and time of sampling on the GAC. In the first study to determine the optimum dose and pH of each green coagulant using jartest, then further research using a combination reactor of coagulation-flocculation and adsorption processes. From the results of the first study, it was found that the green coagulant of Moringa seeds pH 8 at a dose of 3500 mg/L, coconut coir pH 6 at a dose of 3500 mg/L and dried gambas pH 6 at a dose of 3500 mg/L had the highest percentage decrease in TSS parameters and the color was TSS 87. %; color 77%, TSS 90%; color 87%, TSS 76%; color 72%. In the combination of green coagulant and GAC, it was found that the decrease in the content of TSS and color parameters was quite significant compared to using only the coagulation-flocculation process. The highest percentage decrease in TSS and color parameters using a combination of green coagulant and GAC coconut fiber pH 6 at a dose of 3500 mg/L and GAC 50 gr with a sampling time of 60 minutes was TSS 69%; color 69%. The floc produced is quite good with an average settling speed of 50 -100 minutes.
