Abstract
The basil plant (Ocimum Americanum L) belongs to the Lamiceae family. Indonesian people mostly use basil as a vegetable or fresh vegetables. This plant is also used as medicine. There are many extraction methods such as maceration, soxhletation, percolation, and ultrasound. In the essential oil extraction process, fresh basil leaves are washed with water and then dried to become powder. Then put 100 grams of basil powder into the soxhlet, then add 400 ml of 70% ethanol solvent. The process was carried out with time variables of 100, 125, 150, 175, and 200 minutes accompanied by temperature differences of 75, 80, 85, 90 and 95℃. After filtering the extract followed by the distillation process. Then, the calculation of the yield is carried out. The best results showed that the optimum temperature and time for this extraction was at a temperature of 95oC and a time of 100 minutes, resulting in the highest yield of 9.5898%. And then, analyze the components of the essential oil using GC-MS analysis. The results showed that there was an essential oil composition, but Eugenol was not detected. So there could be an error when carrying out the steps of the procedure.
