Abstract
Increased development in the industrial field led to an increase in the amount of liquid waste produced. One of the harmful pollutants produced is lead metal (Pb). Given the dangers caused by lead, efforts are made to lower the levels of lead by the adsorption process. Hyacinth is a weed plant that has a high cellulose content of 60%. In this research, hyacinth is used as a material for making activated charcoal. This research was conducted to find out the ability of hyacinth-activated charcoal in adsorbing lead heavy metals in artificial liquid waste. The first process, hyacinth is carbonated at a temperature of 300°C for 30minutes. Charcoal is then activated with Zinc Chloride. The adsorption process is done by adding activated charcoal to artificial liquid waste with a variable adsorbent mass of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5grams and a contacting time of 30, 60, 90, 120, 150minutes. The results of the analysis of the AAS obtained the best lead absorption percentage of 99.999% at the addition of an adsorbent mass of 4 grams with a contacting time of 150minutes. This indicates that the greater the mass of adsorbent and the time of disbursing, the higher the percentage of lead adsorption.
