Abstract
Indonesia is the third-largest exporter of Gum Rosin in the world. Gum Rosin has become the highest contributor to Indonesian state-owned enterprises called Perhutani. In 2018, Indonesian Gum Rosin contributed almost 45% of Perhutani’s revenue, this indicates that it is one of the profitable commodities and it is essential to study its competitiveness strength to be able to deliver Perhutani recommendations to advance its performance. The scopes of this research are (1) to identify the export competitiveness of Indonesian Gum Rosin by analyzing the comparative and competitive advantage of Indonesian Gum Rosin exports and (2) also factors that affecting Indonesian Gum Rosin export growth. This research, the author using secondary data obtained from The UN COMTRADE, Indonesian Ministry of Trade, and Perhutani. The first purpose is using Normalized Revealed Comparative Advantage (NRCA), Export Competitiveness Index (ECI) analysis, and Export Product Dynamics (EPD). For the second purpose is using Constant Market Share (CMS). The research indicates that Indonesian Gum Rosin has export competitiveness and has a potential if it can be improvised. The Indonesian Gum Rosin has positive NRCA value, the ECI value is above one, and Indonesian Gum Rosin has a Rising Star market position and has an excellent and dynamic export performance. The analysis result for the second purpose shows that world export trend effect and competitiveness effect are affecting Indonesian Gum Rosin export growth. The aforementioned study is the first to analyze the export competitiveness of Indonesian Gum Rosin using NRCA, ECI, EPD, and CMS analysis. Additionally, research on the competitiveness of gum rosin exports is very rare.
