Abstract
Satoimo (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott var antiquorum) is a type of taro which has a small tuber size (small corm taro), also known as Japanese taro. CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) has the molecular formula C8H16NaO8, is biodegradable, colorless, odorless, non-toxic, in the form of granules or powders that are soluble in water but not dissolved in organic solutions. This study uses CMC and Satoimo taro starch to make edible film products, namely in the form of edible cake plates and to reduce the negative impact of paper plates which take a long time to break down in the environment. Edible film processing begins with dissolving 3gr of chitosan with 1% acetic acid, dissolving satoimo starch (1; 1.5; 2; 2.5; 3 g) with aquadest. Mixing the Satoimo-aquadest starch solution into a solution of chitosan-acetic acid and 10ml of glycerol, printed, oven at 70 oC. Then dissolve CMC (0.1; 0.2; 0.3; 0.4; 0.5% w / v) with distilled water, let stand at 4oC, printed, oven at 70oC. Then combine the Edible film with CMC in an oven at 70oC, let stand at 25oC. From the research results, the optimum results were obtained, the starch composition: CMC (3 grams: 0.5%) tensile strength 0.454 MPa, compressive strength 0.3572 MPa, thickness 3,92 mm. As well as the solubility percentage of 50% starch composition: CMC (3 grams: 0.1%).
