Abstract
Shallot seeds have an average germination capacity of 70 -100%, but the seeds have a lower survival rate. Efforts to increase production per unit area include using improved varieties assembled through plant breeding programs. One method of assembling varieties through plant breeding is by mutation. This study aims to calculate the value of lethal dose 20 (LD20) and lethal dose 50 (LD50) on the initial growth of various kinds of onion seed planting material. The research was conducted in the farmer's garden of Ketindan village, Lawang Subdistrict, Malang Regency, East Java from November 2019 to January 2020. This study used a 2 factor single plant method. First factor: TSS Sanren and Tuk-Tuk planting material. Second factor: Treatment of gamma ray doses consisting of 5 levels, namely 0 Gy, 15 Gy, 30 Gy, 45 Gy and 60 Gy. The results showed lethal dose 20 (LD20) and lethal dose 50 (LD50) valu es in Sanren TSS which were 15 Gy and 79.9408 Gy and in Tuk-Tuk TSS were 94.5317 Gy and 175.013 Gy, and there was an influence of gamma ray irradiation 60Co on growth characters in parameters of plant length, number of leaves, root weight, and N uptake as well as on the qualitative character of plants which are characterized by changes in leaf color, leaf fall rate, and leaf density that are different from plants without irradiation. Keywords: Gamma Rays, Lethal Dose 50 (LD50), Mutations, TSS
