Abstract

Activated carbon is a carbon material that has pores with a large surface area so widely used for various applications. The purpose of this experiment is to determine the process of making teak sawdust using phosphoric acid activator and titanium dioxide modification. The process used in the manufacture of activated carbon from teak sawdust uses a pyrolysis process. Sawdust was weighed with an initial weight of 200 grams, 300 grams and 400 grams. The activation process of teak sawdust activated carbon is chemically activated and without activation. In the chemical activation process, the activated carbon obtained from the pyrolysis process is immersed using phosphoric acid activation agent with a concentration ratio of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. After the activation process was carried out using phosphoric acid, then modification or addition of titanium dioxide in a ratio (4:1). The optimum results at an initial weight of 200 grams with a concentration of 15%, the moisture content was 8.75% and the ash content was 15.84%. EDX test results the chemical components of activated carbon are carbon (C) 22.27% weight, Oxygen (O) 33.26% weight, Aluminum (Al) 0.93% weight, Silicon (Si) 2.01% weight, Phosphorus (P) 3.12% weight and Titanium (Ti) 38.4% weight.
