Abstract
ABSTRACT Indonesia is known for its many ethnic groups and cultures ranging from regional dances, traditional clothes, folk songs, and traditional houses. These cultures are not only known in the country but have been known abroad. One of the cultures that has been recognized and known in foreign countries is traditional clothing, namely the kebaya. In general, these clothes are used for daily activities by the Javanese people, especially royal women. But over time this traditional kebaya clothing has developed, where all people outside the kingdom have worn kebaya with growing functions and variations. The development of the kebaya can be seen clearly through the variations of existing forms and models. This development was spearheaded by Indonesian designers who made these traditional clothing increasingly known and loved by the wider community both domestically and abroad. One of the designers who brought the name kebaya to foreign countries is Anne Avantie. This designer from the city of Semarang is known for his kebaya works which have their own characteristics and style. In making her work, Anne Avantie uses a contemporary concept, namely combining traditional elements of the kebaya itself with modern elements that are happening in society. The purpose of establishing the Anne Avantie gallery in Semarang is as a means of education and recreation for the community, especially the residents of Semarang. The design of this gallery uses a Hybrid approach by combining contemporary and traditional following the character and style of Anne Avantie's work. Keywords: Anne Avantie, Hybrid, Kebaya, Contemporary, Traditional.
