Abstract

Employee performance is an important aspect of supporting the achievement of organizational goals, particularly in government institutions. Performance-related issues may be associated with high workloads, an imbalance between work volume and employee availability, and suboptimal work discipline. This study aims to analyze the effect of workload and work discipline on employee performance in East Java Local Government Institutions. The study employs a quantitative approach, using primary data collected through questionnaires distributed to employees. The sample was determined using the Slovin formula, with proportional sampling based on work units and simple random sampling techniques. The results show that workload has a negative and significant effect on employee performance. This indicates that workloads that are not aligned with employees’ capacities can reduce their performance. Conversely, work discipline has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Compliance with institutional regulations plays an important role in supporting optimal task execution. These findings highlight the importance of distributing workloads according to employees’ capacities, setting realistic task completion deadlines, and consistently supervising employee discipline to support improved performance.
