Abstract
High volumes of food waste coexist with food insecurity among vulnerable communities, and food rescue is one effort to address both problems. This study aims to analyze the sustainability status and leverage factors of the food rescue program run by Garda Pangan across ecological, economic, social, technological, and institutional dimensions. It also examines the program's contribution to the food security of beneficiary households in Wonokromo District, Surabaya City. The location was selected purposively. Respondents comprised 35 core administrators and volunteers, selected by census, and 31 beneficiary households, selected by simple random sampling using the Slovin formula. Primary data were collected through questionnaire-assisted interviews, observation, and documentation. Sustainability was assessed using Multi Dimensional Scaling (MDS) with the Rap-Social Program (Rapfish) approach, complemented by leverage and Monte Carlo analyses. The program's contribution was calculated as the share of the food value received relative to daily household food expenditure. The economic (85.81), social (83.94), and institutional (79.13) dimensions were classified as sustainable, while the ecological (71.98) and technological (67.52) dimensions were moderately sustainable. Stress values of 0.14–0.15 and R² values of 0.93–0.94 indicate that the models are reliable. Key leverage attributes include non-organic waste management, self-generated funding, food waste reduction outreach, training, periodic evaluation, and government support. The program contributes 76% of daily household food expenditure, calculated from carbohydrate food groups and their processed products. The program supports SDG 2 and SDG 12.3. Keywords: food rescue, garda pangan, sustainability, mds rapfish, household food security
