Abstract
Mealybugs are sucking pests that can interfere with the growth and productivity of eggplant. Continuous use of synthetic insecticides may cause several environmental and pest-management problems, creating a need for environmentally friendly alternatives. This study aimed to determine the effects of gadung tuber extract, shallot skin extract, and their combinations at different concentrations on mealybug mortality and to determine the most effective treatment based on LT₅₀ values. The experiment was conducted in vivo using a Completely Randomized Design with seven treatments and four replications. Treatments consisted of a positive control, gadung tuber extract at 50% and 75%, shallot skin extract at 50% and 75%, and combinations of both extracts at 50% and 75%. Each experimental unit contained 10 mealybugs. Mortality was observed up to 144 hours after application and analyzed using ANOVA and probit analysis to determine LT₅₀. The results showed that the treatments affected mealybug mortality. The 75% combination of gadung tuber and shallot skin extracts produced the highest mortality among botanical insecticide treatments, reaching 90% at 144 hours after application, while the positive control reached 97.5%. The LT₅₀ value of the 75% combination was 20.512 hours, representing the fastest response among all botanical insecticide treatments. Therefore, the 75% combination of gadung tuber and shallot skin extracts has potential as a botanical insecticide for mealybug management.
