Abstract
Food security is an important development challenge that reflects a country's ability to provide and guarantee public access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. This study aims to analyze the effect of Food Production, Import Tariffs, and Agricultural Productivity on the Food Security Index in developing Asia Pacific countries during the period 2013–2022. The study uses a quantitative approach with six sample countries, namely India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Myanmar, resulting in 60 panel data observations. Data were obtained from the World Bank World Development Indicators, the World Trade Organization, the USDA Economic Research Service, and Economist Impact, and were analyzed using panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model, selected through the Chow test and the Hausman test. The results show that Food Production and Import Tariffs have a positive and significant effect on the Food Security Index, while Agricultural Productivity has no significant effect. Simultaneously, the three variables have a significant effect on the Food Security Index, with an adjusted R-squared value of 87.85 percent. These findings align with FAO's Food Security Theory and Sen's Entitlement Theory, which emphasize the importance of availability and affordability of food in strengthening food security. Therefore, governments in developing Asia Pacific countries need to strengthen domestic food production and implement measured import tariff policies, as well as evaluate strategies to improve agricultural productivity so that it delivers a real impact on food security.
