Abstract
Downy mildew (Peronosclerospora sp.) causes significant yield loss in corn (Zea mays L.), requiring eco-friendly solutions like Mycorrhizal seed coating to enhance growth and disease resistance. This study evaluated the effects of mycorrhizal carrier media (Zeolite and Compost) and dosages (0.2 g/seed and 0.3 g/seed) using a 2x2 Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) on corn growth, root colonization, downy mildew severity, and salicylic acid levels. Results showed that mycorrhizal seed coating improved vegetative growth compared to the negative control. Zeolite at 0.2 g/seed (P1M1) yielded the highest plant height (157.33 cm at 35 DAP), while compost achieved maximum root colonization (86.67% at P2M2) and root biomass (69.42 g wet weight at P2M1). Furthermore, zeolite treatments reduced disease severity to 38.01%–39.13% compared to the control (56.19%). Although qualitative tests for salicylic acid were negative—likely due to conjugated forms or concentrations below detection limits—mycorrhizal seed coating effectively stimulataed early growth and enhanced resistance against downy mildew in corn. Keywords: Corn, Mycorrhiza, Seed Coating, Downy Mildew, Salicylic Acid
