Abstract
ABSTRACT The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is an invasive pest requiring environmentally friendly control alternatives. This study evaluated mortality, median lethal time (LT₅₀), and cadaver symptoms of third-instar larvae following the application of Heterorhabditis spp. isolated from sugarcane fields in Kediri. A completely randomized design with two treatments, four replicates, and five larvae per replicate was used. The nematodes were applied at 800 infective juveniles mL⁻¹ in 5 mL per experimental unit, while carbosulfan served as the positive control. Nematode-induced mortality began at 24 h and reached 70% at 120 h, whereas carbosulfan caused 100% mortality from the first observation. Final mortality differed significantly between treatments (p = 0.029). The nematode LT₅₀ was 74.311 h (95% CI: 58.886–99.087 h). Nematode-infected cadavers were reddish, translucent, and lacked turgidity. The Kediri isolate shows potential as a biological control agent but requires further optimization and testing before integration into integrated pest management programs. Keywords: biological control, entomopathogenic nematode, fall armyworm, integrated pest management, lethal time
