Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of pre-treatment application on the performance of Resin Immobilized Photocatalyst Technology (RIPT) using TiO₂ catalyst for the removal of Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) in the treatment of Kebon Agung River water, Surabaya. The study was conducted through pre-treatment stages consisting of coagulation, flocculation, and sedimentation, followed by a photocatalytic process using RIPT-TiO2. Preliminary tests were conducted to determine the optimum coagulant dose and sedimentation time. Subsequently, the photocatalytic process was performed using resin masses of 20, 40, 60, and 80 grams and contact times of 0, 30, 120, 180, and 240 minutes. The analyzed parameters included turbidity, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and DOM, as well as functional group characteristics using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that the optimum coagulant dose was 250 mg/L, with a sedimentation time of 90 minutes selected for the pre-treatment condition. The application of pre-treatment did not improve the overall effectiveness of the RIPT process but was able to achieve high DOM removal within a shorter contact time. The best condition with pre-treatment was obtained using 60 grams of RIPT at a contact time of 120 minutes, achieving a DOM removal efficiency of 93.86%. Meanwhile, under the treatment without pre-treatment, the optimum condition was obtained using 80 grams of RIPT at a contact time of 240 minutes
