Abstract
Aluminium chloride (AlCl₃) plays an important role in various industries, including the chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. The availability of aluminium chloride in Indonesia remains limited; therefore, a portion of domestic demand is met through imports. This condition serves as one of the main considerations for planning the establishment of an aluminium chloride plant to meet domestic demand and reduce dependence on imported products. The plant is planned to commence operations in 2030, with a production capacity of 60,000 tons/year, and will be located in Cileles-Cikulur, Lebak Regency, Banten. The plant will operate continuously for 330 days/year and employ a total of 185 workers. Aluminium chloride will be produced using the chlorination process, with aluminium metal and chlorine as raw materials. The aluminium metal is first melted in an electric furnace. Dry chlorine gas is then introduced into the furnace and reacts with the molten aluminium to produce aluminium chloride in vapor form. The resulting aluminium chloride vapor is directed to an air-cooled condenser. At temperatures below 178°C, the aluminium chloride undergoes desublimation and is obtained as a solid product. The uncondensed residual gas is then directed to a scrubber to absorb unreacted chlorine, thereby reducing environmental pollution. The aluminium chloride product subsequently undergoes cooling and size reduction using a ball mill to obtain the required product particle size in accordance with the specifications. The planned establishment of the aluminium chloride plant can be summarized as follows: 1. Production Capacity: 60,000 tons/year 2. Form of Business Organization: Limited Liability Company (PT) 3. Organizational Structure : Line and Staff 4. Plant Location : Cileles-Cikulur, Lebak Regency, Banten 5. Operating System : Continuous 6. Operating Period : 330 days/year 7. Economic Analysis : a. Construction Period : 2 years b. Fixed Capital Investment (FCI) : IDR 696,394,095,104.37 c. Working Capital Investment (WCI) : IDR 201,405,586,897.05 d.
