Abstract

Dimethyl phthalate merupakan senyawa yang memiliki kegunaan sangat luas dalam industri kimia. Senyawa ini digunakan sebagai intermediate pada pembuatan polimer dan plasticizer. Sehingga membuat kebutuhan akan dimethyl phthalate semakin besar dan penting di dunia industri. Peluang didirikannya pabrik dimethyl phthalate di Indonesia cukup besar, maka perlu direncanakan perancangan pabrik kimia dengan produk dimethyl phthalate. Pabrik ini direncanakan akan berdiri pada tahun 2030 dengan kapasitas 25.000 ton/tahun di Kawasan Industrial Estate JIIPE (Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate) di Desa Sukomulyo, Kecamatan Manyar Kabupaten Gresik. Pabrik beroperasi selama 330 hari dalam setahun dengan jumlah tenaga kerja 243 Karyawan. Pembuatan dimethyl phthalate menggunakan proses esterifikasi, dimana proses ini dilakukan dengan mereaksikan phthalic anhydride dan methanol di dalam reaktor-1 sehingga membentuk monomethyl phthalate.
