Abstract

This research is motivated by students who work part-time at coffee shops and have to fulfill dual roles as students and workers. This condition may cause work stress and difficulties in balancing work, academic activities, and personal life. Flexible working hours are therefore needed to help students manage their time more effectively. This study aims to analyze the effect of work stress and working hours flexibility on work-life balance among students working part-time at coffee shops in South Surabaya. This study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research method. The population consisted of active students in semesters 5–8 who worked part-time at coffee shops in South Surabaya. A total of 92 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a questionnaire using a Likert scale and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with the assistance of SmartPLS 4. The results showed that work stress had a negative and significant effect on work-life balance, while working hours flexibility had a positive and significant effect. The R-Square value of 0.824 indicates that the two variables were able to explain 82.4% of the variance in work-life balance.
