Abstract
Abstract Spodoptera frugiperda is a major invasive pest of corn crops in Indonesia, causing significant yield losses. This study aimed to evaluate the bioencapsulation formulation of Beauveria bassiana using sodium alginate and its efficacy against S. frugiperda. The research was conducted using a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors: sodium alginate concentration (1%, 1.5%, and 2%) and application time, with three replications. Fungal conidia were encapsulated in sodium alginate beads dropped into a 2% CaCl₂ solution. The results showed that the 1.5% sodium alginate concentration (K2) yielded identical values for conidial viability and encapsulation efficiency (76.00%). The K2 treatment also achieved the highest larval mortality rate (91.43%) at 120 hours post-application, with the fastest median lethal time (LT₅₀) of 76.726 hours. These findings demonstrate that the 1.5% sodium alginate formulation effectively protects B. bassiana conidia, thereby enhancing its potential as a biological control agent against S. frugiperda.
