Abstract

Water hyacinth is one of the invasive plants that disrupt the environment. Analysis of cellulose content in water hyacinth (EG)showed results of 30.61% so that cellulose crystallinity modification was carried out. Delignification using a microwave power of 240 W with a variable concentration of 2% w/v NaOH for 6 minutes became the EGN sample (Cellulose in Water Hyacinth after Delignification). Modification of cellulose crystallinity using a magnetic stirrer with a stirring speed of 150 rpm produced EGNN (NH4OH Treatment Water Hyacinth) with variable NH4OH concentration and temperature. The results of the cellulose content test in EGN showed an increase of 37.31%. XRD results showed that most EGNN samples still resembled the characteristics of EGN, EGNN samples at a variable NH4OH concentration of 25% v/v and temperature of 10 oC had the lowest crystallinity value. FTIR results on EG, EGN, and EGNN samples showed the presence of cellulose functional groups, namely -OH at 3320.8198 cm-1, -CH at 2900.89616 cm-1, and C-O at 1027.39068 cm-1. NH4OH treatment on water hyacinth cellulose tends to modify the degree of crystallinity rather than the crystalline phase, and does not change the main functional groups.
