Abstract

This study aims to analyze the liquefaction potential based on Standard Penetration Test (SPT) data, evaluate its effect on slope stability, and determine the optimum slope stabilization method using a combination of Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) and piles for the Domestic Passenger Pier Development Project at Benoa Port, Denpasar. Liquefaction potential was evaluated using the method proposed by Youd et al. (2001) based on corrected SPT data, while slope stability analysis was performed using PLAXIS 2D. The results indicate that soil layers at depths of 2–16 m, except at a depth of 6 m, are susceptible to liquefaction with a factor of safety against liquefaction of less than 1.0. The existing slope condition yielded a Safety Factor of 2.256, whereas the post-liquefaction numerical analysis failed to reach convergence due to the reduction in soil shear strength. The application of DSM successfully eliminated liquefaction potential within the improved zone by enhancing the soil mechanical properties; however, it was insufficient to achieve overall slope stability. The combination of DSM and piles provided the optimum performance, resulting in a Safety Factor of 1.5, which satisfies the minimum stability criterion of 1.5. The findings demonstrate that the combined application of DSM and piles is an effective ground improvement method for enhancing slope stability under post liquefaction conditions.
