Abstract
Tobacco is a cash crop that is sensitive to waterlogging. Heavy rainfall causes flooding and waterlogging, conditions that lead to crop failure and yield loss for tobacco farmers. The use of varieties capable of adapting to their environment is necessary to maintain stable tobacco production levels. This study aimed to determine the effects of flooding duration and tobacco varieties on growth and yield. The study was designed using a 3 × 3 factorial split-plot design (RPT), with each treatment combination repeated three times. The first factor, duration of waterlogging (G), served as the main plot, consisting of no waterlogging (G0), 1 day of waterlogging (G1), and 3 days of waterlogging (G2). The second factor was tobacco variety (V) as the subplot, namely Manilo (V1), Semarang Jahe 1 (V2), and Jepril 1 (V3). The results showed that tobacco plants are highly sensitive to waterlogging; 1-day and 3-day waterlogging reduced the growth and yield of all tobacco varieties compared to the non-waterlogged treatment, with a decrease in leaf dry weight ranging from 75.85% to 80.40% for 1-day waterlogging and from 80.26% to 83.32% for 3-day waterlogging across the varieties. The duration of flooding affects the growth and morphological response of tobacco plants; a 1-day flooding period results in a lower level of stress compared to a 3-day flooding period. Variety affects the growth, morphological response, and biomass of tobacco plants; each variety exhibits a different response to flooding. No variety was tolerant to flooding, as all varieties subjected to 1-day and 3-day flooding experienced a very sharp decline in growth and yield compared to those not flooded. Keywords: Tobacco, duration of flooding, Variety
