Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of inflation, Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), and Non-Performing Financing (NPF) on Return on Assets (ROA) of Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia. This study employs a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from the annual financial statements of five Islamic commercial banks, namely Bank Syariah Indonesia, Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Bank Mega Syariah, Bank BJB Syariah, and Bank BTPN Syariah, covering the period from 2016 to 2024. The analytical method used is panel data regression, with the model selection based on the Chow test and Hausman test, which resulted in the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) being selected as the most appropriate model. The results show that inflation has a positive but insignificant effect on Return on Assets (ROA). Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) has a negative but insignificant effect on ROA, indicating that an increase in capital adequacy does not directly improve profitability if it is not accompanied by efficient utilization of capital. Meanwhile, Non-Performing Financing (NPF) has a negative and significant effect on ROA, indicating that an increase in problematic financing can reduce bank profitability through increased risk and loss provisioning expenses. Simultaneously, inflation, CAR, and NPF have a significant effect on ROA of Islamic banks in Indonesia. These findings indicate that managing financing quality and improving capital utilization efficiency are important aspects in enhancing the profitability of Islamic banks.
