Abstract
Employee performance in manufacturing firms is closely tied to how well organizations manage occupational risk and behavioral compliance on the production floor. The effect of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and work discipline on the performance of production employees at CV Logam Kusuma Nusantara, a metal-casting manufacturer located in Klaten, Central Java, is investigated in this study. Employing a quantitative explanatory design, data were gathered from the entire population of 45 active production employees through a structured questionnaire, applying a census (saturated sampling) technique. SmartPLS software was utilized to analyze the data through the application of PLS-SEM. Adequate convergent and discriminant validity, together with reliable internal consistency across all constructs, were demonstrated by the measurement model. According to the structural model results, employee performance is positively and significantly influenced by OHS (original sample = 0.527, t-statistic = 4.521, p = 0.000), while work discipline likewise exerts a positive and significant influence on employee performance (original sample = 0.295, t-statistic = 2.670, p = 0.008). A combined 58.6% of the variance in employee performance is accounted for by both predictors (R² = 0.586), classified as a moderate level of explanatory power. These findings confirm that clear safety procedures and compliance with company regulations are the most influential indicators shaping OHS and work discipline, respectively. The study recommends that manufacturing firms operating in high-risk production environments strengthen safety procedure communication, personal protective equipment (PPE) enforcement, and disciplinary supervision as complementary strategies to sustain and improve employee performance.
