Abstract

This study aimed to determine the most effective concentration of coconut shell liquid smoke in controlling wilt disease caused by Fusarium sp. and its effect on the growth of chili pepper (Capsicum annuum). The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five concentration levels of liquid smoke, namely 0%, 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%, tested through in vitro and in vivo stages. The in vitro results showed that the 10% concentration produced the highest inhibition rate of 55%, followed by 7.5% (40%), and 5% (6%), while the 2.5% concentration showed a negative inhibition rate (-12%), indicating a hormesis phenomenon. The in vivo results demonstrated that the 5% concentration was the most optimal treatment with disease intensity of 25.00% at 42 days after planting and the best plant growth, including plant height of 37.75 cm, total leaf number of 570 leaves, and root weight of 1.74 g. In contrast, concentrations of 7.5% and 10% were phytotoxic and caused plant death. Therefore, the application of coconut shell liquid smoke at 5% concentration is recommended as an effective and safe botanical fungicide
