Abstract

PT XYZ is a steel pipe manufacturing company facing suboptimal warehouse layout issues, resulting in excessive material movement distances and high material handling costs (OMH). This study aimed to redesign the facility layout using the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method—assisted by Computerized Relationship Layout Planning (CORELAP)—and to analyze the resulting changes in material movement distances and material handling costs. The data utilized included the initial layout, area dimensions, activity proximity relationships, material movement distances, and material handling costs; these were processed using ARC, ARD, and CORELAP. The results indicate that the proposed layout occupies an area of 1,655 m², which is smaller than the initial layout's 3,933 m². Material movement distance decreased from 621.2 meters to 233.4 meters, while daily material handling costs dropped from Rp670,527.33 to Rp192,241.82, yielding a saving of Rp478,285.51. Consequently, annual material handling costs fell from Rp209,202,404.28 to Rp59,968,468.88. These findings demonstrate that SLP and CORELAP can effectively improve layout efficiency while reducing material movement distances and material handling costs.
