Abstract
Waste management at landfills can generate methane (CH₄) through the anaerobic decomposition of organic waste, contributing to global warming. This study aimed to estimate CH₄ emissions, analyze CH₄ dispersion patterns, and evaluate the environmental impacts of waste management at Wonokerto Landfill, Pasuruan Regency. CH₄ emissions were estimated using the First Order Decay (FOD) method based on the 2006 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines, considering waste generation, composition, and Degradable Organic Carbon (DOC) content. CH₄ dispersion was modeled using AERMOD based on local meteorological and topographical conditions, while environmental impacts were evaluated using a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach. The results showed that during 2021–2026, the total waste received at Wonokerto Landfill reached 253,177 tons, with total CH₄ emissions of 4.480 Gg or 4,480,000 kg. Annual emissions increased from 0.756 Gg in 2021 to 0.977 Gg in 2025. Gas Chromatography (GC) analysis confirmed an actual CH₄ concentration of 1.129%. The average wind speed of 2.22 m/s influenced the CH₄ dispersion pattern, which tended to move toward the southeast. The integration of IPCC, AERMOD, and LCA provides a comprehensive approach for identifying emissions, dispersion patterns, and environmental impacts associated with waste management at Wonokerto Landfill. Keywords: Landfill, Methane Gas, IPCC, AERMOD, Life Cycle Assessment
