Abstract
Industrial development plays a crucial role in meeting the needs of society and the nation in the modern era, with rapid growth in the chemical industry sector serving as a key indicator. The development of the chemical industry in Indonesia is expected to reduce reliance on imported chemicals, create jobs, conserve foreign exchange, and accelerate economic growth. One strategy to boost the industrial sector is the production of ethyl chloride, an organic compound utilized in various fields such as pharmaceuticals, plastics, and varnishes. Ethyl chloride also serves as a solvent for phosphorus, sulfur, fats, oils, resins, waxes, and insecticides, and functions as a cooling agent in the refrigeration industry. Given its diverse applications, the demand for ethyl chloride is projected to rise across both the chemical and healthcare industries, both domestically and internationally. Indonesia currently relies on imports to meet its ethyl chloride needs, despite the domestic availability of the raw materials—ethylene and hydrochloric acid. Consequently, developing domestic ethyl chloride production could help curb the country's dependence on imports. Furthermore, given the limited number of ethyl chloride producers in Asia, establishing a plant in Indonesia offers significant profit potential and opportunities for export to other Asian markets. Therefore, the establishment of an ethyl chloride plant in Indonesia warrants serious consideration.
