Abstract

Poverty remains one of the development problems faced by Probolinggo Regency. This study aims to analyze the effects of population size, economic growth, education level, and open unemployment rate on the poverty rate in Probolinggo Regency. This study employs a quantitative approach using secondary time-series data for the period 2010–2024 obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the effects of the independent variables on the poverty rate. The results show that population size does not have a significant effect on the poverty rate. Economic growth also has no significant effect on the poverty rate, while education level likewise does not show a significant effect. Meanwhile, the open unemployment rate has a significant and positive effect on the poverty rate, with a significance value of 0.016. These findings indicate that unemployment is a more dominant factor affecting the poverty rate compared to the other variables. Therefore, poverty alleviation efforts should focus on expanding employment opportunities and improving the quality of the workforce.
