Abstract
Stevia is known as the "sweet leaf" or "honey leaf" and is currently widely cultivated across various countries to meet the food industry's demand for products suitable for individuals with diabetes and obesity. However, stevia cultivation particularly in lowland areas still faces challenges, especially regarding growing medium composition and light intensity. This study aimed to analyze the interaction between growing medium composition and shading percentage on stevia plant growth in lowland areas. The first factor was shading percentage (N) with three treatment levels: control, 25%, and 50%. The second factor was growing medium composition (M), with three treatment levels: pure soil (control), a soil and cocopeat mixture (1:1), and a soil and cocopeat mixture (2:1). The parameters observed included plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, root length, fresh weights (root, leaf, stem, and total), dry weights (root, leaf, stem, and total), and harvest index. The results indicated that the 50% shading treatment combined with the soil and cocopeat mixture (2:1) yielded better results for stevia plants compared to the other treatments.
