Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda is a major invasive pest of corn crops that can cause significant yield losses. Continuous chemical insecticide use carries the potential risk of inducing resistance, necessitating more environmentally friendly control alternatives, one of which is the utilization of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma. This study aimed to determine the parasitization capacity of Trichogramma on S. frugiperda eggs, its effect on host egg mortality, and the successful emergence of adult parasitoids. The research method utilized a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The results showed that treatments P2, P3, and P4 were not significantly different regarding the parasitization rate of S. frugiperda eggs by Trichogramma sp. (62.50%–74.00%), host egg mortality (77.50%–81.50%), or adult emergence (19.15%–25.95%). The lack of significant differences among treatments was attributed to the limited number of available host eggs and the occurrence of intraspecific competition among parasitoid larvae within the host eggs. Keywords: Spodoptera frugiperda, Trichogramma japonicum, parasitization, egg mortality, biological control
