Abstract

Educational staff play an important role in supporting the smooth operation and academic services in higher education institutions. However, job demands and high workloads can affect the balance between work and personal life, as well as employee engagement. This study aims to analyze the effect of Work-Life Balance and Workload on Employee Engagement among educational staff (Tendik) at the Rectorate of UPN “Veteran” East Java. This study uses a quantitative approach with primary data obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to educational staff. Data analysis was conducted using the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method with a bootstrapping procedure to test the hypotheses. The results show that Work-Life Balance has a positive and significant effect on Employee Engagement, while Workload has a negative and significant effect on Employee Engagement. Simultaneously, these two variables explain 46.8% of Employee Engagement. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that improving Work-Life Balance can increase Employee Engagement, whereas increasing Workload can decrease it. Therefore, institutions need to pay attention to maintaining work-life balance and managing workload proportionally in order to enhance the engagement of educational staff.
