Abstract
The appeal of religious tourism in the area surrounding the Al-Akbar National Mosque in Surabaya (MAS) has successfully driven significant growth in the number of domestic and international tourists. This study aims to analyze the determining factors in the development of this religious tourism destination using a comprehensive approach based on the 5A theory (Attractions, Activities, Accessibility, Accommodations, and Amenities). The method used was qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentary studies, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results of the study indicate that the attractions within the 5A Tourism components in the area of the Al-Akbar National Mosque in Surabaya have generally been effective in attracting worshippers and tourists, with their primary motivations still centered on the architectural attractions and the various religious activities offered. However, on-site dynamics indicate challenges in the form of a lack of visual signage, as well as non-physical barriers such as limited language services or tour guides (language barriers) for international tourists. This study concludes that efforts to enhance visitor satisfaction must be comprehensively aligned based on the segmentation of pilgrims’ and tourists’ characteristics, so that management can optimize service quality to provide a profound and memorable spiritual experience. Keywords: Attractions, Al Akbar Mosque in Surabaya, 5A Components of Tourism, Religious Tourism.
