Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of growing media composition and chicken manure dosage on the growth and yield of purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.). This research was conducted from December to January in Prigen, Pasuruan, East Java, using a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor was the growing media composition (M) with three levels: soil and rice husk charcoal (1:1), soil and compost (1:1), and soil, rice husk charcoal, and compost (1:1:1). The second factor was the dosage of chicken manure (P) with four levels: 0 g/polybag (control), 40 g/polybag, 60 g/polybag, and 80 g/polybag. all treatments was dominated by bacteria, while the use of benomyl proved effective in suppressing fungal contamination. The results showed that the treatment combination of growing media composition (soil:rice husk charcoal:compost, 1:1:1) and a chicken manure dosage of 40 g/polybag yielded the best results for all purslane growth and yield parameters, including the number of leaves, number of branches, branch length, fresh weight, and dry weight. These parameters showed highly significant results from 7 to 35 Days After Planting (DAP). The optimal growth observed in this treatment was attributed to the sufficient availability of both macro and micronutrients in the media. Furthermore, the study indicates that excessive fertilizer dosages may lead to nutrient accumulation and osmotic stress, which can inhibit plant growth. Additionally, the highest Vitamin C content (9.57 mg/100g) was also obtained from the treatment combination of soil, rice husk charcoal, and compost (1:1:1) with 40 g/polybag of chicken manure.
