Abstract

The industrial sector is widely recognized as one of the main indicators of a country's economic development, including Indonesia. In the era of globalization, industrial growth has intensified competition among countries to produce goods that meet domestic demand while expanding into international markets. As of the fourth quarter of 2023, the manufacturing sector remained the largest contributor to Indonesia's economy, accounting for 17.84% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The development of domestic industries requires the optimal utilization of Indonesia's abundant natural resources to reduce dependence on imported raw materials. One of these resources is bauxite, which can be processed into aluminum sulfate. Aluminum sulfate, commonly known as alum, is an important industrial chemical with significant economic value. It is widely used as a primary or supporting raw material in various industries, including soap, pulp and paper, textiles, and other chemical manufacturing processes. In addition, its excellent coagulating properties make it an essential chemical for water treatment and wastewater treatment applications. The increasing demand for aluminum sulfate indicates the need for continuous production to meet domestic market requirements. Therefore, establishing an aluminum sulfate plant in Indonesia is considered a strategic initiative to satisfy growing domestic demand, reduce dependence on imports, and create new employment opportunities. Furthermore, the development of this chemical industry is expected to stimulate economic growth by expanding industrial activities, increasing export potential, and generating additional national income, thereby contributing to Indonesia's sustainable industrial and economic development.
