Abstract
Callus induction is one method used to increase garlic production, but a common problem is browning, which can inhibit callus growth. This problem can be solved by providing antioxidant sources at the appropriate concentrations. This study aimed to determine the interaction between the source and concentration of antioxidants on the incidence of browning and garlic callus growth. The study was conducted at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur, from October 2025 to January 2026. This Study employed a factorial experiment based on Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor was the antioxidant source, consisting of 3 levels, namely ascorbic acid (A1), PVP (A2), and activated charcoal (A3). The second factor was the concentration of the antioxidant source, consisting 2 levels, namely 0,5 g/L (K1) and 1,5 g/L (K¬¬2). The results showed no significant interaction between the source and concentration of antioxidants on the parameters of time to onsent browning and percentage of browning. The addition of PVP at various concentration levels tended to result in a lower percentage of browning compared to the addition of ascorbic acid and activated charcoal.
