Abstract
This Field Work Practice (PKL) was conducted at PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk, Sidoarjo, East Java, for a duration of one month from September 4 to October 3, 2023 . The PKL activities were focused on the utilities department, specifically within the Water & Steam laboratory, with the primary task of performing coal calorific value analysis and oil quality analysis . The objective of these analyses was to ensure that the quality of the purchased coal fuel met the manufacturer's specifications and to monitor the suitability of lubricants used in the power plant machinery to maintain optimal factory operations . Coal analysis included parameters such as Total Moisture, Inherent Moisture, Total Sulfur, and Gross Caloric Value . Meanwhile, lubricant analysis was performed on oil samples from Boiler Feed Water Pump (BFWP) A, BFWP B, Control oil, and turbine oil, with test parameters including appearance, color, impurity, acid value, and water content . The coal analysis results yielded a Gross Caloric Value (ADB) of 5989 cal/g and (ARB) of 5270 cal/g, which generally aligned with the COA (Certificate of Analysis) data, confirming that the quality is acceptable . On the other hand, the oil analysis results indicated that the BFWP A, BFWP B, and control unit oil samples are recommended for immediate replacement because they failed to meet the standard requirements for water content . Only the turbine oil sample was declared fit for continued use, as it remained within all specified parameter standards . Keywords: PT Tjiwi Kimia, Coal, Calorific Value, Oil Analysis, Utilities.
