Abstract

Geographical Indication (GI) certification is a form of legal protection intended to preserve the characteristics, quality, and reputation of products associated with their geographical origin while enhancing the economic value of agricultural commodities for producers. Wonosalam Excelsa coffee has been granted Geographical Indication certification; however, the implementation of certification standards and the economic benefits obtained by farmers still require evaluation. This study aimed to identify the implementation mechanism of Geographical Indication certification, analyze the financial feasibility of Excelsa coffee farming, and evaluate the attributes of Geographical Indication certification based on farmers' perceptions of their importance and performance. The study was conducted in Wonosalam District, Jombang Regency, involving 94 Excelsa coffee farmers selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, financial feasibility analysis through Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Payback Period (PP), as well as Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). The results indicated that the implementation of Geographical Indication certification generally complied with the requirements specified in the Geographical Indication Book of Requirements, although some farmers had not consistently applied the recommended standards for fertilization, pesticide application, selective harvesting with a minimum of 95% red cherries, and post-harvest sorting. The financial feasibility analysis demonstrated that Excelsa coffee farming was financially feasible, with an NPV of IDR 7,208,454, an IRR of 20.30%, and a Payback Period of 4.17 years. The Importance Performance Analysis revealed that quality control, selling price improvement, income enhancement, market access, product competitiveness, and certification dissemination were the priority attributes requiring improvement. The findings indicate that Geographical Indication-certified Excelsa coffee farming is financially feasible; however, improvements in the implementation of several certification attributes are still required to optimize the economic benefits received by farmers. Keywords: Excelsa Coffee, Geographical Indication, Financial Feasibility, Importance Performance Analysis, Farming.
