Abstract

A dextrin manufacturing plant utilizing corn starch via enzymatic hydrolysis with a production capacity of 40,000 tons/year will be established in the Cilegon Industrial Estate, West Java. This plant operates continuously 24 hours a day for 330 working days per year, employing 241 personnel. The plant utilizes corn starch as its primary raw material supplied by PT. Tereos FKS, alpha-amylase enzyme from PT. Sadya Balawan, and CaCl from PT. Pelangi Chemindo. The resulting product is dextrin with a purity of 98%, which can be utilized across various industrial sectors, including food, adhesives, and pharmaceuticals. In this plant, corn starch serves as the main raw material processed through enzymatic hydrolysis catalyzed by alpha-amylase. The production process begins with starch gelatinization through direct steam injection to facilitate the subsequent stage. This is followed by a liquefaction process with the addition of alpha-amylase enzyme, achieving a 98% conversion rate into dextrin. Once the dextrin is formed, the spent enzyme and unreacted starch are separated via ultrafiltration membranes and recycled. Next, CaCl2 which was previously added as an enzyme stabilizer, is removed using an ion exchanger. The purified solution is then concentrated in an evaporator from 31% to 60%. Finally, the dextrin solution is dried using a spray dryer and cooled using a cooling conveyor.
